DRINKING WATER supply to trans-Gomti localities was restored late Wednesday by the Jal Sansthan following laying down of a new pipeline by the UP Jal Nigam.
Supply to the affected localities reeling under an acute water crisis for the past four days ever since the approach road to the Hanuman Setu caved in last Sunday was started at 2.30 am, according to a Jal Sansthan official.
By Thursday morning, incoming traffic from the Lucknow University end towards Hanuman Setu was also allowed on the bridge easing the morning rush considerably. “Our job is done. It is now up to the Construction and Design Services (C&DS) officials and the PWD to ensure repair of the approach road of the bridge,” said VU Bishnoi, superintending engineer of Jal Nigam official, who was supervising the repair work. The C&DS officials, on the other hand, went about their job of piling and construction on the archway even as the Jal Nigam reportedly completed its probe into the incident. While the Jal Nigam chief engineer claimed that he had done the job assigned to him, the managing director of Jal Nigam said that several loose ends still remained to be tied up.
Both officials, refused to divulge the findings. It would take 10 days for the bridge to be fully operational.
