Ironically, it was stipend teachers who staged a demonstration outside the venue, alleging that some of those shortlisted did not meet the norms. Stipend Teachers’ Association president Dr DP Yadav and his supporters engaged in a war of words for a few minutes. However, security personnel intervened to quickly control the situation.

DP Yadav insisted that the short-listed candidates did not fulfil norms for appointment.

He said the Stipend Teachers’ Association would move court against the decision and continue their struggle in a democratic way.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar came out of the meeting hall and threatened to suspend the assignment of stipend teachers. This added fuel to the fire. But, the Pro V-C and other officials pacified the agitators.

The government issued an order to regularise services of stipend teachers engaged since December 31, 1997. The university authorities had short-listed such stipend teachers.

An academic counsel meeting was convened to send a proposal to regularise services of 11 teachers to the government. Sudhakar Lal and Manoj Tiwari of Medieval History Department, Dr Nishad Jaiswal of Political Science, Dr Madhu Sachdev of Sanskrit and four teachers — Dr Vinay Kumar Singh, Dr SK Tiwari, Dr SK Srivastav and Dr Keshav Singh — from the Zoology Department were shortlisted.
