Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on Monday temporarily suspended its service to Karnataka in the wake of attacks on buses in the border area.

"The service has been temporarily suspended since morning as instructed by the state and Karnataka police officials," MSRTC PRO Mukund Dhas told PTI.

"The service can be resumed anytime if police permit," Dhas said. Similarly, buses coming from Karnataka are being terminated at Nipani, he said. MSRTC buses are plying only till Kagal in Kolhapur district, he added.

MSRTC operates 150 trips to Karnataka daily. Due to the ongoing stir, MSRTC has lost around Rs three lakh in the last two days, he said.

After Karnataka police caned Marathi-speaking people in Belgaum on Friday, Leader of the Opposition in Maharashtra assembly and Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam said if BJP government in Karnataka continued "atrocities" against Marathi people, his party would snap ties with the saffron ally.
