Israel has been unrelenting in its bombardment of Lebanon, and only because two of its soldiers were abducted. The US and neighbouring Arab States seem reluctant to interfere, and even the UN has taken no action. It’s time the international community came forward on humanitarian grounds and stopped the killing of innocent civilians.

Hollow statements
Before blaming Pakistan, our leaders should think about what they have done to root out terrorism. They should explain why no terrorist has ever been prosecuted. Why was Pota repealed, Azhar Mehmood released and why is Dawood Ibrahim still at large? Instead of punishing murderers, our government brands them as misguided youth. This isn’t the way to deal with terrorism.

Each time terrorists strike in India, Pervez Musharraf quickly apprehends al-Qaeda suspects to convince the US of its sincerity in fighting the war on terror. The US is aware of this ploy but exercises restraint. Pakistan is squarely behind the Mumbai blasts. Mere sympathy to the victims by George Bush doesn’t suffice.

Held to ransom
