THE EXPLORED and known sources of energy are limited and petering out fast. And, therefore, there is a need to exercise effective control on the use of energy. These observations were made by Girish, technical advisor to the UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, at a lecture on “Energy conservation’ organised by the Water Works Association, Lucknow, here today.
“We have used almost half of the oil in the past 100 years and the remaining oil stocks may not last for more than 35-40 years. Same is true of all other known sources of energy,” he said. He said that the present technology did not offer a long-term workable solution to the energy problem. It is, therefore, essential that we must conserve energy and its wastage should be stopped at all cost. At the same time all efforts should be made to develop new technologies to meet our ever-growing need for energy, he said.
Girish said it was very important to ensure proper use of energy with utmost efficiency. “The Government of India has enacted the Energy Conservation Act 2001 to take care of proper control and use of energy. Bureau of Energy Efficiency has been established under this Act to ensure implementation of provisions of this Act. He suggested that use of CFL lamps be promoted in a big way.
