A woman was killed and 65 others injured after high speed winds hit Kupwara district in north Kashmir, official sources said on Monday.

About 1000 structures, including 800 houses and shops, were damaged and many areas plunged into darkness as the winds swept the district for an hour, the officials said, adding the stormy weather uprooted trees and electric poles affecting electricity supply in parts of the district.
Shameema (28), a resident of Wadpora village, died after a tree fell on her outside her house, police said.
As many as 11 others injured seriously were hospitalised, they said.
Handwara township, 80 kms from Srinagar, was the worst-hit and suffered maximum damages which is still being assessed, SSP Handwara Rafiq Ahmad Wakeel said.
