Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam announces a grant of Rs 100 lakh for his ancestral village, reports Vijay Swaroop.

It was a true homecoming for Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Tuesday, when he visited the land of his grandfather, Mohit (Mahto) Ramgoolam.

Aaj apan dada-pardada ke zameen par pau rakh kar dil gadgad ho gail ba. Aakh mein asu bhar gail ba (I am very pleased to arrive at the land of my forefathers. My eyes are full of tears),” he said to the crowd of cheering villagers, who had converged at Harigaon.

The PM announced a grant of Rs 100 lakh for his ancestral village. “Two students from Bihar will also get a scholarship from Mauritius,” he said. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar referring to the recent controversy in Mumbai said: “People of the state do not survive on anybody’s mercy. Navichandra Ramgoolam has proved that Biharis can achieve great heights wherever they are.”
