After the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) stopped catching cattle from the roads, the menace of stray cattle is back in the city.
In May last year, MCG had set up a cow shelter in Karterpuri village near Palam Vihar.
The civic body withdrew its support to the shelter Nandhi Dhaam and stopped catching stray animals for the last two months.
According to the MCG officials, Gurgaon has about 5,000 stray cattle.
However, the issue was raised by an NGO running this shelter at a meeting of top MCG officials including commissioner Sudhir Rajpal.
MCG has agreed to resume its support in terms of fodder in the shelter that houses about 1,300 cattle.
As per the arrangement worked out with Vishnu Charitable Trust (VCT), the NGO, MCG was supplying fodder and medicines that would cost it about R6.5 lakh a month. The NGO took care of the management.
The NGO has claimed that the things are back on track after the meeting with the MCG that has agreed to take care of the fodder supply.
