Stress on service to the downtrodden

He was expressing his views at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the society at Little Flower School on Wednesday.

He also paid homage to the founders of the society.

Bishop Kokkat of Gorakhpur said the CST was celebrating 75 years of service to the people.

He added serving the poor was the mission of founder of the society Father Basilius Panat. Many Bishops participated in the programme.

Earlier, the programme began with prayers, which was followed by felicitation. Students of Little Flower School, St Basils of Basti and children from Nepal performed dance and other programmes.

Father Michel said the society was established in 1931 to help the distressed and orphans. At present, the society runs around three dozen educational institutions in eastern UP. He claimed the society was like a banyan tree, which was playing a vital role in imparting formal and non-formal education in rural areas.
