Shops, businesses, banks, semi-government establishments and courts remained closed and vehicles were off the roads in response to the calls given by the Hurriyat Conference and Kashmir Traders Federation.
Official sources said that attendance in government offices were abysmally low.
The protests were sparked by the killings during an operation to flush out militants from the area. The Army and the state government have ordered separate probes into the incident.
