Striking staff urges IMC to inspect premises

“IMC officials should inspect the hospital premises as heaps of garbage have piled up owing to our strike following which people living in the neighbourhood are being exposed to epidemic situation. The IMC should inspect the hospital at the earliest and take action against the hospital administration,” secretary of the Choithram Hospital Karmachari Sangh, Pratap Karosia said in a release here on Friday.

He has also mocked the claims of the hospital management that most of the employees have returned and resumed work. Meanwhile, countering the union’s claim, the hospital administration said all necessary services have been resumed and most of class III employees are present on duty.

“We have hired workers from outside to run all services. In spite of strike, nearly 300 patients attended the OPD and over 100 patients were admitted today,” hospital director (Medical Services) Dr Kamalakar Vaidya (retd) said in a release.

Class III and IV employees struck work since last Saturday over an 11-point charter of demands. Intervention by the Deputy Labour Commissioner too has failed to find a solution with both sides adamant on their respective stands.
