Strong quake off Russia's north Kuril islands

Two earthquakes, measuring up to 5.1 on the Richter scale, struck off the coast of Russia's North Kuril islands on Tuesday.

Two earthquakes, measuring up to 5.1 on the Richter scale, struck off the coast of Russia's North Kuril islands on Tuesday, ITAR-TASS news agency reported quoting seismological centres.

The first quake's epicentre was located just south of Paramushir island, some 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the city of Severo-Kurilsk, and the second was some 325 kilometers (200 miles) away from the city, officials said, adding that no tremors were felt in Severo-Kurilsk.

No damage or casualties were reported.
