IT’S BETTER student care at the Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow. Come July, IIM-L grads would start taking lessons in Yoga and Reiki.
Also, the IIM mess, an important rendezvous for students, is going to be quite a rocking place to be in. There is a proposal to have a ‘music menu’ providing different kinds of music at different times of the day there. “For instance, we may have devotional music during breakfast and some ghazals for dinner,” IIM’s chairman, Student Affairs, Prof Dharmendra Sengar told HT.
Further, the institute is all set to extend a health insurance cover to the aspiring CEOs besides making helmets and seat belts a must for the students while driving. The move to arm each student with a ‘medical card’ along with making helmets and seat belts compulsory is apparently an attempt by the IIM-L bosses to learn from some past mistakes.
IIM-L authorities have still not forgotten last year’s incident when several management students took ill due to food poisoning and had to be admitted to hospitals. Also, it created quite a flutter in the IIM-L when one of the students suffered serious injuries in an accident while driving a two-wheeler minus a helmet. Immediately after the food poisoning incident, Prof Sengar had announced that a ‘disaster management group’ would be formed to avoid such unfortunate happenings.
“The yoga and reiki sessions would help the students in concentrating better. Experts would be invited on the campus to guide them. The idea is to make them feel at home,” Prof Sengar said.

{{/usCountry}}That’s not all. The management institute is toying with the idea of developing a relaxation park and a swimming pool too. “We would involve our students in all these activities so that they get that feeling of belonging,” Prof Sengar added. The students are more than willing.
“We will dig out the space for the swimming pool ourselves,” a group of elated students told Prof Sengar during an interactive session held earlier in the day.
The institute is also trying to provide the best of facilities to its students. “We have an entirely new hostel for our students. Each room has computer friendly furniture and would soon have Internet facilities,” Prof Sengar added.
