SEVERAL STUDENTS were injured when the activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, and the Samajwadi Chatra Sabha clashed during the filing of nomination papers for the student union election of Harish Chandra Post- Graduate College here on Tuesday afternoon.

The ABVP candidate for the post of president and his supporter and former general secretary of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) student union Neeraj Singh, and some others were also injured in the clash.
Several shops and vehicles were damaged by a group of violent students. Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the situation. Stone pelting also took place when police intervened in the matter.
Police arrested eight ABVP activists demonstrating outside the district hospital to demand arrest of those who attacked their leaders.
Later, a heavy force was deployed around the college to avoid any untoward incident.
Busy commercial areas of Malviya market, Maidagin, Lohatia, Kabirchaura and Piplani Katra wore a deserted look following the violence in the area.
According to information, the nomination process was scheduled to be held from 12 noon to 3 pm. The candidates for the post of president, vice president, general secretary and library secretary were filing their nomination.

{{/usCountry}}After ABVP candidate for the post of president, Shailendra Kumar Pandey, who is also the present vice-president of student union, filed nomination, his supporters took out a procession from Golghar area. In the meantime, the candidate of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha supported by the ruling Samajwadi Party, also reached the place from opposite direction.
Due to some unknown reason, a few activists of both groups clashed, forcing the candidates of president’s posts also to intervene in the matter. Soon, it led to an attack on the ABVP candidate Shailener Kumar and former general secretary of MGKV student union, Neeraj Singh. They were allegedly badly beaten up by the supporters of Kameshwar Dixit, candidate of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha for the post of president.
On getting the news, cops rushed to the area and brought the situation under control.
Shailenera and Neeraj were taken to hospital by their supporters. As the news spread, other supporters rushed to the district hospital area and enforced closure of shops and damaged several vehicles. They sat on a dharna at the Kabirchaura crossing, When cops asked them to go away, they refused. As a result, cops resorted to lathi charge and arrested eight activists. The fleeing activists also threw stones on the cops.
Meanwhile, activists of the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabah and SP sat on a dharna at the Maidagin crossing to demand arrest of ABVP activists, who they alleged, first clashed with them.
