The deceased has been identified as Dhananjay Singh, student leader of Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College of the town. Villagers and supporters of Dhananjay turned violent after his assassination and set ablaze a rice mill owned by one of the accused persons.

They also attacked and damaged residence of another accused in the case.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the area following tension and local police faced a tough time controlling the situation as agitated villagers raised slogans against the police administration.

Police used mild lathicharge to disperse the mob and PAC was deployed in the village to control the situation. Police also registered a case against block pramukh of Farenda Ram Prakash Singh and six others, including Shivendra Singh, Shakti Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Kaushal Singh and Ram Awadh under different section of the IPC.

Sources said Dhananjay Singh was a close associate of former president of LBS Degree College student union president Santosh Jaiswal who was killed on January 19, 2002. They set ablaze the house of Durgesh the main accused in Jaiswal murder case. Police said Durgesh’s supporters might have taken revenge.
