While a group of the students strongly opposed the proposal to introduce age bar and fix expenses, the other groups of the student leaders welcomed the decision. They said the age bar would free the student unions from the clutches of those leaders who have criminal background.

President of DDU Gorakhpur University Rajiv Pandey expressed his displeasure at the decision and said the age bar was not acceptable.

He said that after attaining 26 years, a student leader did not become an anti-social element.

He suggested that such barriers should be imposed on political leaders for contesting the election of Member of Parliament and MLA.

Pandey further said that bar on limitation of expenses should be reconsidered.

Lauding the decision, former vice-president of DDU Gorakhpur University Mahendra Rai said it would pave the way for the new students leaders. He demanded that the students with criminal background should not be given admission to educational institutions.

Vice-president of the students union Chetna Pandey welcomed the decision and suggested that age bar should be extended up to 30 years. Student leaders Umashanker Yadav welcomed the decision and said the decision was in favour of the students.

However, the teachers welcomed the decision. President of the Gorakhpur University Teachers Association Chitranjan Mishra said that the order should be implemented effectively as it would save the academic atmosphere of the university.
