Student union poll at MGKV postponed

AUTHORITIES OF Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth have decided to postpone student union election till the implementation of Lingdoh Committee recommendations in this regard. Talking to mediapersons here this afternoon, vice-chancellor of MGKV, Prof Surendra Singh Kushwaha, said that the Lingadoh Committee had submitted its recommendations to the Union government on student union elections and MGKV administration would conduct the election as per the recommendations of the committee.

Talking to mediapersons here this afternoon, vice-chancellor of MGKV, Prof Surendra Singh Kushwaha, said that the Lingadoh Committee had submitted its recommendations to the Union government on student union elections and MGKV administration would conduct the election as per the recommendations of the committee.

“We are in touch with the State government and would conduct the election as soon as we get directive from the State government in this connection’, he said. MGKV administration was all set to conduct the student union elections before September 15 this year, when the term of current union is scheduled to be expired.

Prof Kushwaha requested the students not to be involved in election activities and focus on academic activities to maintain 75 percent attendance required for appearing in the annual examination. He added that disciplinary action would be taken against all those found involved in election campaign, or distributing hand-bills or fixing posters or banners.

He said that the first session of NTPC Campus of MGKV would begin at Rihand (Sonebhadra District) from Friday. At the initial stage, the MGKV administration has decided to conduct BA, B.Com. and BFA courses in the current academic session of 2006-07 whereas some new courses such as B.Sc., BBA and BCA etc. would be introduced from 2007-08. He added that they had submitted a proposal to set up Lal Bahadur Shashtri Institute of Science and Technology on the campus with a cost of Rs. 10 crore.

Delivering inaugural lecture of M.Phil. course of the current academic session at MGKV on Thursday, Prof Kushwaha said that students should always strive hard to get higher education. He laid emphasis on enhancing the quality of research activities.

Head of Sociology department, Prof Ramesh Nandan Dwivedi, said need of the hour was to ensure better coordination between traditional knowledge with modern education.
