The students with the active support of National Students Union of India (NSUI) demonstrated against the administration for poor results in B Sc first, second and third year exams. NSUI leaders Akhilesh Ranjan ‘Gopi’ and Nitesh Narvale said that the carry system devised by the college was in major part responsible for the poor performance considered to be the worst in a decade.

Earlier students used to get AT-KT in two subjects because of which, students could get admission in the next class and appear for those exams. However, the college administration differing from this usual practice followed in most other colleges reduced the AT-KT to one subject resulting in poor performance and bad results.

Almost 3,000 students of the college demanded that this carry system be dropped in favour of the old one, which be revived in the general interest of the students. As the principal of the college Dr YN Pendharkar recently took voluntary retirement, a petition regarding the same was submitted to the acting principal.

Many view today’s instance as a beginning of similar agitation and if not addressed in quick time it may assume greater proportions leading to students’ unrest and subsequent strike.
