STUDENTS CREATED ruckus following the detention of the vice-president of CMP Degree College Students Union by the police for protesting against a cultural programme under way at the college on Saturday. Police had to resort to a mild cane charge to bring the situation under control. Later, under pressure of student leaders, the cops released the union office bearer.

Trouble started when the cultural function 'Vishwas 2006' orgaised by the CMP Degree College Students Union got under way and the chief guest arrived at the venue. Students Union vice-president Priti Tripathi sporting a black ribbon stood up and demanded immediate stopping of the ongoing programme. This led to an argument between Priti and the college Proctor Dr Satyamwada Singh. When the student leader refused to leave the venue despite the instructions of the proctor, the cops present on the scene moved in and dragged her away from the auditorium and took her to George Town police station.
Priti's detention by the cops led to the student leader Ashutosh Pandey boycotting the cultural programme and holding a road block near the college. To bring the situation under control, the cops detained Ashutosh and chased away the protesting students after a mild cane charge. Later, however, under pressure from student leaders, the cops released Ashutosh as well as Priti.
It was only after CO-IV reached the college that the cultural programme, in which students participated in large numbers, could be held peacefully.
