Two students of an Indore College, who designed a navigation system for the visually-impaired, walked away with the second prize at Technofest-2006 at IIT-Mumbai.
The project Divya Drishti was displayed under the Smart Tech Category, called Prayas (endeavour) by the organisers. Pallavi Tiwari and Dhruv Sakalle of GSITS, Indore, who developed the device said, “The device will prove to be a major boon for the visually-challenged persons if it is installed at public places.”
The indoor navigating device consists of three portable static transmitter units sound beacon, arrowhead alignment assembly and a path locating transmitter. The device guides the wearer along a minimum obstruction route via path location and arrowhead receivers fitted on the cap.
If a person deviates from the infrared way, it activates the sound beacon.
