While some students welcomed the unexpected break, others — mostly science students — were anxious about finishing their syllabus in time.

“I was excited as college finally started, but my parents had sent me only on the condition that I take necessary precaution for the flu,” said Abhishek Bhagat (16), a science student who attended his first day in Ruia College.

“I assured my mother that I would take necessary precautions as I did not want to miss the first day,” said Mansi Mhatkar (16), who is studying Arts in Ruia College.

Some students felt that this untimely break could affect their academic cycle.

“I was glad that the college finally started but I am slightly anxious about how we are going to complete the session,” said Rinky Bajaj, a student of Jai Hind College.

The extended vacation has dampened the excitement of many students.

“Already there is a delay of a month and a closure for another 15 days is going to make the situation worse,” said Yash Kulkarni, (15) a commerce student of Swami Vivekanad College, Chembur.

“Professors will rush with the syllabus and the students will suffer as a result of it,” he added.
