A total of 67 students underwent gruelling sessions. They also learned how to erect tents and climb mountains.
Their day started at dawn and progressed through the day with a wide range of adventure activities, classroom sessions and lectures. They were trained by army officials. Lt Gen (retd) BK Bopanna led the team.

“The training teaches them to become good team players and leaders, and builds their character as well. If a biotechnology student undergoes military training, the person may not become a better biotechnologist. But the student will learn to be more focused in life and career,” said Bopanna.

MSc student Sandeep Mittal was thrilled with the residential army training camp.

“I wish we could attend such military camps frequently,” said Mittal. He said he has now learned to behave well and is confident about battling complex situations in life. “I used to stay awake with friends all night in my hostel, but
now I sleep on time at 10pm. This is my newly-acquired discipline and I intend to stick to it,” he added.

The university authorities won't extend the duration of the training due to academic obligations. “This type of training is important but not at the cost of the main curriculum,” added Bopanna.
