Students protest SC order

RATTLED WITH the Supreme Court guidelines, Lucknow university student leaders raised anti-Lyngdoh slogans and forced closure of all classes on Monday. They took out a march up to GPO Park and put up a road blockade at a busy Hazratganj crossing for half-an-hour causing inconvenience to commuters, especially schoolchildren. The mob attacked private and public transport vehicles and even damaged windowpanes of some of them.

The mob attacked private and public transport vehicles and even damaged windowpanes of some of them. They lifted the blockade only after a delegation of SP student leaders was allowed to go towards the Samajwadi Party office.

Here they held a meeting with minister of state for higher education Ramasrey Vishwakarma. The minister, however, did not make any commitment to them. However, the students claimed that the minister had assured them of a favourable discussion with LU V-C RP Singh. Senior party workers advised student leaders to meet the chief minister. Ever since the Lyngdoh committee recommendations came into force, the Samajwadi Party student leaders had been running from pillar to post in get some relief. They also met Akhilesh Yadav in this connection.
