STUDENTS OF the GSVM Medical College, the IIT-K and the CSJMU students union took out a rally against police lathi-charge on the medicos protesting against government quota policy. The rally was taken out from Motijheel to Medical college.

To bolster the anti-reservation protest, several IIT alumni also took part in the rally. The agitating students planned to go to the district magistrate office to hand him over the memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister.

However, the administration persuaded some medicos and IIT students that some criminals were taking part in the procession under the banner of the University students’ union.

On hearing this, students became cautious. After this, additional city magistrate (ACM) SK Dubey entered the medical college premises and accepted the memorandum from the students.

Earlier, at Motijheel, hundreds of students, sporting black ribbons, started marching towards DM office raising anti-government slogans.

Before they could cross the Motijheel gate, some students were suggested by the cops to hand over the memorandum to ACM instead of going to the DM office. About 40 medicos, half-a-dozen IIT-K students, scores of University student union members and several other students of private dental and engineering college participated in the procession.

MLN Medical College students shut the emergency ward and OPD section of the SRN Hospital and took out a rally However, the students  organised their own OPD on the lawns of the hospital to help patients. The medicos said, “While we want to lodge our protest and oppose the move to bring reservation for OBCs in higher education, on the other hand, we do not want the patients to suffer.”

The students alleged reservation would give entry to undeserving candidates in higher education which would affect quality of education.
