THE CULTURAL fest Badal Raag organised by Bharat Bhawan kicked off with huge fanfare on Friday evening. Cultural Minister Laxmikant Sharma inaugurated the three-day function. A large crowd had gathered at the auditorium to see acclaimed violinist L Subramaniam perform.
Subramaniam presented two compositions and started off with a piece in praise of Lord Ganesha. The mellifluous notes of his violin engulfed the entire atmosphere and created a spiritual mood right at the onset of his recital. K Shekhar accompanied him on Tabayil, K Gopinathan on Mridangam and G Sathya Sai on Morchang.
The trio effortlessly elevated the harmonious level of the entire presentation by blending the melodic and rhythmic richness of their native score with ragas like the ‘Hamsadhvani’ and ‘Kriti’ that were brilliantly executed by the noted violinist himself.
The performance left the listeners spellbound that stuck around till the end of the programme. Laxmikant Sharma, who was the chief guest, assured the enthusiasts in the City of conducting other prestigious music festivals to quench their harmonious progressions.
S K P Gupta (Director, Jaypee Associates) and Commissioner Culture, Pankaj Raag, also delivered speeches and expressed their gratitude towards the artistes for having obliged the art lovers. An exhibition featuring the works of 11 female artistes was also inaugurated.

Subramaniam will be performing at Career College, BHEL on September 9 at 11.00 am under the Virasat 2006 series of SPICMACAY.
Dr Subramaniam will be accompanied on the Thavil by K Sekar. Sekar is leading Thavil player who hails from a traditional family of musicians and he was trained under eminent teachers of his family. His playing technique and solid rhythm raised him to the top of music field.
He has accompanied a number of Nadaswram artistes like late Nasmagiripettai Krishnan, Sheik Chinna Moulana, PK Madurai and so many others.
