Music surely knows no boundaries and Jahan-eKhusrau, a festival that celebrates the spirit of Sufi music in the Capital every year is all set go global. The festival organised by filmmaker and fashion designer Muzaffar Ali, boasts of Sufi artistes from all over the world performing under one roof. It is one of the three programmes which is a part of the three-day celebration to be held in the last week of October, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Big ticket: Does this ultimately mean that Sufi has gone truly international? All said and done, a concert at MFA will definitely put Sufi music on the global radar and elated with this honour, Ali says, “I’m happy with the kind of attention Sufi music has received nationally but now it is important to go global to achieve higher realms.” But what does the concert at the MFA have in store for a Sufi music lover? Ali says, “Zila Khan and other Turkish and Iranian artistes will perform at the MFA. A global appeal should also have a global approach, after all. I’m glad to see different quarters opening up to Sufi music and welcoming it with open arms,” he says.
Film matter: It is not just music which is a part of the celebrations at the MFA. Three of Ali’s films — Anjuman, Umrao Jaan and Breathe Into Me (a film on Sufi poet Rumi) will be screened at the festival. And riding high on hope, Ali has big plans. “I’m looking at the American market for my forthcoming film on Rumi. The groundwork is over and now the shooting has to begin.”
