Congress leader Shashi Tharoor broke his long-drawn silence on Friday saying he has some reservations about the ongoing probe into the death of his wife Sundanda Pushkar but reiterated that he would fully co-operate with the special investigation team.

However he ducked key questions saying it won’t be proper to say anything since investigation was on. He did not specify in detail why he was not fully satisfied with the probe. “My silence was not sinister. In fact silence was there for almost a year. Public discussions on such issues won’t be good.”

“The recent findings have really troubled me. I lost my wife but I was not allowed to mourn in silence. I am not for a public discussion to raise TRP,” he said adding some of the recent media reports pained him badly.

Before the four-minute briefing he told newsmen, who were camping outside the Auyrveda resort in Guruvayur for last two days to hear him, he said he would not entertain any questions at this juncture.

Sources close to Tharoor camp said he would go to Delhi either on Saturday or Sunday and present himself before the special investigation team before it dispatched a notice to him. He’s likely to depose before the SIT on Monday. He already had a word with top lawyers and assured the Delhi police that he would fully cooperate with any probe.

His aides also said he was really upset with selective leak of some letters he sent to the Delhi police chief. In the letter sent in November Tharoor had accused the Delhi police of intimidating his domestic help to give a statement to implicate him in the murder of his wife.

His help Narayan Singh, a native of Himachal, was quizzed gain on Thursday. There were reports that he had given detailed accounts of the events leading to Sunanda’s death. He reportedly told the police that a Sunil sahib’ was with Sunanda in the hotel room of the Leela Palace in Delhi two days before her death. He also told the police that he helped Sunanda in sending some mails and text messages.

This is the first time Tharoor addressed media since the Delhi Police filed a murder case “The issue got so much unwanted attention. There should be a professional investigation without any predetermined motive,” he said without mentioning his earlier letter sent to the Delhi Police Commissioner alleging a plot to fabricate him in the case.

“I hope Sunanda’s family and I get justice. Our personal staff will fully cooperate with the probe” he said adding he was completely taken aback by the latest development and at no state he believed any foul play in Sunanda’s death.
