Delhi recorded this winter’s second coldest morning on Wednesday when the minimum temperature slid to 3.9 degrees, three degrees below normal.
The season’s lowest temperature so far was recorded on January 4 at 3.7 degree Celsius.
Although there was shallow fog in the morning, there was respite from the cold when the sun came out and the icy winds were missing. The maximum temperature was recorded as 21.3 degrees — normal for this time of the year.
The lower temperatures on Wednesday morning were attributed to clear skies and the absence of fog.
According to the weatherman, Delhiites can expect a cold morning on Thursday as well followed by a comfortable day.
“Clouds could be seen during the afternoon on Thursday, following which the night temperatures can rise and day temperatures can drop. The city may also see light rainfall on Friday,” said BP Yadav, director, weather forecast, India Meteorological Department.
The change in weather in the coming two days will be because of a western disturbance that will also bring snowfall to the hilly regions of the country.
“Though the morning was very cold, the day temperatures made up for it completely. The sunshine was a welcome relief from the sunless days seen in the last two weeks,” said Vishal Kala, a Kashmere Gate resident.

The mean minimum for the month of January is 7.3 degrees Celsius while the mean maximum is 21.1 degrees.
