Some time ago remakes of Hollywood or South films was the mantra for success in Bollywood, but the scenario seems to be changing with the success of sequels released in the past few months. Cashing in on this, more and more filmmakers are now playing with the idea of rehashing earlier successes. The latest to join the bandwagon happens to be Tigmanshu Dhulia. The director is all set to make a sequel of the early 90s super success, Ghayal.

“We are definitely toying with the idea of making the sequel and currently I’m working on the script,” confirmed Dhulia. The director (Charas,Haasil) won’t need to take permission from the producer of the film, Sunny Deol, as he himself will be producing the sequel once again and has joined hands with K Sera Sera for the same. “Sunny has tied up with K Sera Sera to produce a couple of movies, including this one,” said Dhulia.

The original Ghayal ended with Deol being caught by the police on charges of killing the villain (Amrish Puri). The new film is expected to narrate what happens when he comes out of jail. “I don’t want to disclose anything about our plans,” said Dhulia, keeping mum about the story.

However Dhulia’s decision to make a sequel to Ghayal may cause a rift between him and Raj Kumar Santoshi, the original director as both worked together on a couple of projects. “I don’t think so. I’ve decided to go and speak with Santoshi soon and I don’t think he’ll have any problem. I’m open for any inputs from him too,” Dhulia clarified, adding, “After all, I have worked with him and he’s like my guru.” This is not the first time Deol will be working in a sequel. Prior to this, choreographer-turned-director Ahmed Khan too tried to make a sequel of Arjun  with him. But the film in question, Lakeer — Forbidden Lines didn’t do well at the ticket counter.
