Surprisingly, summer this year has been comfortable for the people of Gurgaon with less power cuts. The electricity department has improved power distribution by adding and augmenting sub-stations and increasing power generation ahead of summer. The highest consumption recorded this year was 175 Lakh Units (LU) in the month of July as compared to the 157 LUs used in June last year.
Despite temperatures rising up to 47 degrees Celsius, the residents felt less heat due to reduced power cuts.
“This year we did not have any power outage except for some times due to maintenance and minor fault repairs. The power situation has improved with less fluctuations and trips,” KS Yadav, president of Sector-14 RWA said.
Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) augmented eight power houses, apart from adding 100 new transformers to the existing 10,000. All the 11KVA feeders underwent maintenance. They also segregated 50 feeders and made a new policy for upgrading electrical infrastructure in private colonies to avoid overloading which is one of the main reason for power cut.
“The cost of upgradation of electrical infrastructure will be shared in the ratio of 75:25 with all the private developers in the city. The estimated upgradation cost in DLF areas is Rs 20crore, whereas other developers are yet to submit their required amounts,” SK Sachdeva, chief engineer of DHBVN said.

We have also increased our generation capacity by adding 500M each at Jharli and Jhajjar and 1200M at Hisar,” superintending engineer of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN), Rajesh Gupta said.

HVPN made 'banking arrangements' with states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from where Gurgaon borrowed 1100MW this summer. “We will return the power borrowed in summer during winter. These states have surplus powers in summer and we have surplus in winter,” Gupta further added.
