The public anger, which led to the Surat gang rape accused getting thrashed on Saturday, has boiled over to the virtual
world.
Orkut profiles of Tariq Sayed and Shahid Saiyed — two of the three accused, who are also aspiring models — have been flooded with messages demanding ‘Taliban-kind of punishment’ to the accused.
Police officials investigating the case, meanwhile, confirmed that several MMSes were recovered from the accused when they were arrested.
“The team which arrested the accused on Friday has recovered video clips of the rape,” Inspector (Crime) A.K. Qureshi told HT over phone.
The police are also probing Tariq’s involvement in the murder of a commercial sex worker in Surat in January this year.
Police also suspect the hand of the accused in the rape of a mentally challenged girl in the area earlier, thus substantiating the theory that the offenders may have been regularly committing such crimes.
Subhash Trivedi, DCP Crime, Surat, said the police were probing all angles.
"Their involvement in the act (the gang rape) is more than established. We are collecting evidence," he said.
