'I love you,' "Do you think you love him?" "How can you be sure you love her?" these are some of few phrases that we come across everyday of our life. So I was having this conversation with my friend the other day and she asked me. "What is love?" Hoping that I would come up with a substantial answer. But all I could come up with was "I don't know. I'll tell you when I fall in love."
That got me thinking. A lot of relationships end up in breakups. Some of them are very ugly. Where one person usually suffers more than the other, trying to figure out all the while what his/her fault was, where he/she went wrong. What happens when one finds him in a situation like this. How can one be sure that this won't happen again? Hoping and trying to understand at the same time, how to make the next relationship more meaningful, more mutual. Hoping to find true love.
So we come to the most important question - What exactly is love? Fairy tale type? Thinking about the person all the time. Wanting to be with the person all the time - I'd say Infatuation. Wanting to do anything to get the person, to be with the person - Obsession. Living for the person, your life starts and ends at the person is impractical or too idealistic for life. Purely physical attraction, we all know that's lust. Why I say purely is because physical attraction is an important part of a relationship (beauty being in the eyes of the beholder) but what I think the three most important ingredients are (you might disagree) Respect, Understanding and Compatibility. Love to me is nothing but an intense form of liking and well, building on these three factors makes life a lot easier.
So the next time, you are looking for relationship, a long lasting relationship, think about it practically. Love is something that grows with time with respect; understanding and well you might even find better compatibility. Be patient and don't rush into things and when you are sure, don't give up. Love is beautiful, the more you work on it, the more beautiful life would seem!
