Accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of unleashing a reign of terror in the administration, suspended IAS officer Promilla Shankar has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to protect her from grave injustice. A 1976 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, Shankar was placed under suspension on September 9 for going abroad without seeking prior permission from the state government.
She sought the PM's intervention in a letter to his principal secretary last week.
Before her suspension, Shankar was posted as commissioner, NCR planning cell of UP. In her letter, she said the state government's permission was not required for purely personal foreign visits.
Shankar wrote, "The state government had to find a way to remove and silence me." According to her, the NCR planning cell was under pressure to approve the Master Plan of the Yamuna Expressway Authority and incorporate it in the sub regional plan. The state government rebutted her charge.
