The ongoing water crisis has been haunting Gurgaon residents ever since the onset of summers but it has also taken a toll on swimming enthusiasts. Due to the shortage of water, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has slapped a ban on the operation of private swimming pools in the city.

The affected swimming pools are the ones being run in the condominiums as well as in individual houses. There are nearly 150 such pools in the city. The public swimming pools being run in hotels and clubs, however, have been spared of the embargo.
On the other hand, some of the condominiums and gated communities, which are known for 100% power back up and round-the-clock water supply, have allotted timings to their inmates when water will be supplied.
From the last one month, residents have been protesting due to ‘no’ or ‘little’ water supply.
The residents of DLF City, Sushant Lok and various Huda sectors have been complaining about inadequate water supply.
“We’ve already closed the swimming pool. Posters have been pasted in the area to spread the message of water conservation. This will help our colony get better water supply,” said Rajeev Lamba, RWA president, Essel Tower.
With the water crisis worsening, residents are urging the authorities to take measures to check wastage of water, besides shutting down swimming pools.

{{/usCountry}}To address the issue, Huda recently announced to improve supply in the Gurgaon water canal, which supplies water from the western Yamuna canal to Gurgaon.
“We have issued a directive to all group housing societies and individuals operating swimming pools on their premises to close them down until the water supply improves or monsoon hits the region. We will organise surprise inspections and defaulters will be penalised. However, public swimming pools being run in hotels and clubs have been exempted from the embargo,” said Huda administrator Praveen Kumar.
At Davinder Vihar in Sector 56, the management has been providing water only for four hours daily for the last 10 days. Earlier, residents were supplied water for 24 hours.
Similarly, swimming pools at Hewo apartment in Essel Tower have also been shut down.
