TRAI has sent its recommendations to Govt on mobile number portability.

By April next year, you will be able to change your mobile operator without having to change your number. All you will have to do is pay around Rs 200 to the operator you will be moving to.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday sent its recommendations to the government on mobile number portability (MNP), saying the facility be introduced within a year.

Initially, the subscribers will be able to retain their numbers within the same service area (say, within Delhi). Later, this facility will be allowed between two or more service areas (even if you move out of the city). TRAI has suggested that the facility be introduced in a phased manner -- from the metros to the smaller cities.
