MUNSHI PREMCHAND spent almost 20 years of his life in Gorakhpur teaching Hindi. Now, to commemorate his success, dedication and contribution, the State Lalit Kala Akademi under the aegis of the State Cultural Department, has conceived an idea to make huge tableaux at the existing Prem Chand Park in Gorakhpur. It will depict his stories.
Lalit Kala Akademi director Veena Vidhyarthi says, “There are going to be five tableaux depicting five different stories, Kafan, Godan, Panch Parmeshwar, Do Bailon ki Katha and the last tableaux titled Premchand Grameeno ke Madhya. We have invited tenders from artists who think that they can make these tableaux.
And then we will decide as to who will make these tableaux.”
The medium of these tableaux will be cement, fiber and wood. The approximate size of the tableaux will be 14 feet by 14 feet. The artist who made the drawings for these tableaux, Ajay Jaitley, said, “The drawings are made in such a fashion that they look old and antique. Certain natural plants available in that area will also be used in the tableaux.”
Apart from this, there will be a gist of the story written under each tableau that would also convey the theme. Jaitley says, “The best part about Premchand’s stories is that one does not have to find scenes. The scenes come out on their own once the story is read.” The budget of this entire project is Rs 50 lakh. The work at the park is supposed to ‘start soon.’
