TADA court convicts Mohd Ghansar

He is found guilty of planting bombs in Zaveri Bazaar.

Mohammed Shoaib Ghansar, who was accused of planting an RDX-laden scooter in the crowded Zaveri Bazaar in South Mumbai, was today found guilty in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case.

Ninth on the list of 123 accused, he is the fifth to be convicted for involvement in the serial blasts after main accused Tiger Memon's brothers Yakoob, Yusuf, Essa and his (Tiger's) sister-in-law Rubina, who were convicted on Tuesday last.

Ghansar was one of the 28 persons accused of planting bombs at 13 places in the city. He was found guilty under various sections of TADA and Indian Penal Code, including conspiracy, murder and attempt to murder.

"He may face punishment ranging from five years to life imprisonment or even death," Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said.

The prosecuting agency CBI had contended that Ghansar was an associate of absconding Tiger Memon.

The bomb planted by Ghansar had gone off at 3.05 pm on March 12, 1993, killing 17 persons and injuring 57 others. Property worth Rs 1.20 crore was damaged due to the blast.
