Countering allegations of irregularities in advertising policy of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), chief engineer BS Singroha has said that the civic body has earned a whopping Rs 20 crore from hoardings and other advertisements during the current financial year.
Singroha said that the corporation has earned a revenue of R20 crore in the year of 2011-12, which is the highest in the corporation’s history.
He has been facing criticism for alleged irregularities in the implementation of advertising policy. According to sources, the state government has taken serious note of the allegations and also ordered an inquiry into the matter.
However, deputy commissioner (DC) Gurgaon, PC Meena, did not confirm whether an inquiry has been initiated or not. He said, “I have got some report in this regard from Chandigarh office.”
The chief engineer said that the MCG had floated tenders in April 2011 and earned R17 crore from advertisers.
“I cannot say why the corporation did not earn revenue from advertisers earlier as the revenue figures of past three years reflect. I have done a commendable job by regularising the system of tender and tightening noose around defaulters who earlier were free to earn through advertising across the city,” rued the chief engineer.
The corporation’s record reflects that it collected R83 lakh in 2008-09, followed by R27 lakh and R16 lakh in the year 2009-10 and 2010-11 respectively.
