If you work in the business district of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) or stay close by, you could soon hop into a swanky clubhouse, work out in a gym or even go for a swim nearby. An acre-and-a-half sized plot has been put up for development in BKC exclusively for sports and leisure activities.

In a recent tender notice issued, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited bids from private developers to develop the plot.

Besides constructing a clubhouse and a gym (measuring 6,402 square metres) of international standards, there will also be a parking area with a capacity of at least 2,000 cars and a garden above it. The building norms in BKC allow for an FSI (floor space index) utilisation of 2.5.

Officials in the town and country planning division of the MMRDA said the plot was a part of the layout plan of BKC, which is reserved for recreational purposes. The parking lot, officials said, was necessary due to the inadequate parking space in BKC.

"The entire recreational area will be open to the public on a 'pay and use' basis. The plot will be given on a lease for 80 years to the successful bidder who can appoint an architect of his choice to design the project," said Joint Project Director Dilip Kawathkar.

Rs 620 crore above the reserved price.

The bids are to be opened on March 23.
