What are your top priorities?

Computerisation of the finance department is on the top of my priorities as it will enhance the output besides leaving no scope for errors in such an important department like finance. Moreover, I will immediately implement the rules and regulations issued by Ministry of HRD and the UGC.

What steps will you take to set right financial records?

Before attaining the Central status, the funding and audit of the varsity was governed by the state bodies but now we are answerable to the highest body of the country, Parliament. The annual accounts need to be prepared within the stipulated time and we have to get it audited from the Auditor General of India.

A certificate issued by AG will be attached with the annual accounts before presenting it to Parliament through the Ministry of HRD. I have directed the staff to present the records of funds received, balance in the accounts and utilisation of funds. Besides I have instructed the staff to provide the details of each and every bank account maintained by the varsity. The annual report is supposed to be submitted within 15 months from the starting of the new year.

I am getting acquainted with the working pattern and the staff. I am open to every one who follows office etiquette and follows the rules and regulations. I will not entertain any such person who does wrong or does not follow the code of conduct and expects favours from me. I prefer complaints and grievance in written and take initiative after investigating the issue without any bias and forward the case to the higher authorities.

Huge amount is due to the audit department as audit fee. Comment.

The dues to the state audit bodies would be cleared or adjusted by the state government. From now onwards the audit will be conducted by central audit department and I will take care that no dues remain pending against the central university. All the payments and receipts would be in compliance with the statutes of AU and all the transactions would be monitored to facilitate the audit work.

How will you gear up AU finance department to function as per Central rules?

The conversion from state to central status is a tedious job and a time consuming affair. The decades old system can not be changed overnight. The staff needs proper training and positive attitude to sustain the change. I anticipate positive response from my staff and other departments. I am sure that under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor I shall prove my professional abilities and maintain the independence of the department. I will give my best for the development of the varsity.
