“The Congress should have initiated a mass movement to protest the government’s policies. As this didn’t happen, I started holding meetings across the State to mobilise public opinion,” said the former chief minister during an informal chat with mediapersons at Residency Kothi.

In response to a question, Digvijay clarified that he had no quarrel with Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia. “I’ve served as an MLA, MP, Chief Minister and PCC chief so there’s no question of my being involved in any dispute with anyone over either post or prestige,” declared the Congressman en route to Ujjain for a Kisan Rally organised by Alot MLA Premchand Guddu.

“It wouldn’t be correct to speculate. The matter will be decided by the party leadership in association with elected representatives,” said Singh when asked which caste the next chief minister should belong to.

Referring to Minister of State for Water Resources Minister Jugal Kishor Bagri being chargesheeted by the Lokayukta, Digvijay said corruption was taking place right under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s nose. “But he can’t see it.”

Today every contract is awarded to those with links to the ruling party. As a result genuine contractors are moving out, leading to a decline in the quality of work. The State, which stood first in the Pradhan Mantri Sadak Nirman Yojana from 2002 to 2004, has today dropped to fourth place, he added.

The AICC general secretary concluded by charging the BJP with claiming credit for development schemes initiated by his government.
