Taking risks most vital factor of entrepreneurship

He was addressing the valedictory session of a two-week ‘Faculty Development Programme in Entrepreneurship’ at the Department of Chemical Engineering, IT on Friday.

The Industry Institute Partnership (IIP) Cell of IT-BHU, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India and National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science and Technology (Government of India), had organised the programme.

Prof Upadhyay said since there was lack of risk-taking capacity among people of eastern Uttar Pradesh, they took entrepreneurship as the last career option.

“The intelligentsia are either going abroad or opting for administrative jobs,” he said, adding that unless intellectuals were motivated to choose entrepreneurship as the first career option, the entire exercise would prove futile.

He further said this was the reason that Marwaris and Gujaratis were doing well in the industrial sector. He called upon the teachers to motivate students to select entrepreneurship as their first career option. “The need of the hour is to outgrow job creators and not job seekers,” he added.

Around 30 faculty members of various science and technology institutions from Varanasi and adjoining areas participated.

The participants said they were ready to organise entrepreneurship awareness camps at the institutional-level besides counselling youths for a successful entrepreneurship.
