SENIOR JOURNALIST Punya Prasun Bajpai on Friday said that the country did not lack talent in any field but this talent is was getting in the face of the market onslaught today.
He said that alarmingly, even media and journalism has come under its impact and with the changing values and times, the challenge now is of earning the trust and the confidence of the people and once that is achieved, only the sky is the limit.
Speaking as the special invitee at the inaugural ceremony of the four-day annual function of Allahabad University's Centre of Photojournalism and Visual Communication—Dastak-2006, Punya Prasun Bajpai said that the newcomers joining the field of media and journalism will have to develop a deep understanding of the society and its ever-changing facets to be able to effectively communicate with the people on a wider canvas and move them into action and thought.
"Technologies are changing rapidly and the interested will manage to come to terms with them but what is important is to develop and evolve the power a thought and it is only then that an effective journalist can tell people about their own society," he said.
He praised an audio visual show prepared by the Centre's students and displayed during the inaugural function and also took the time to point out its short comings after critically assessing it.

{{/usCountry}}Chief guest of the occasion, AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe stressed on the importance of analysing one's own work and finding out its mistakes without getting dejected. "Only with constant efforts to improve and better one's own performance can excellence be attained in a field and with that success automatically embraces an individual," he said.
Director of AU's Institute of Professional Studies under which the Centre of Photojournalism and Visual Communication functions, Prof GK Rai welcomed the guests and highlighted some of the achievements of the Centre's students during the past one year. He said that industries were in need of quality professionals and were struggling to find the kind of manpower they want. "The Centre of Photojournalism and Visual Communication is striving to fill this gap by producing professionals well versed with the latest technology and techniques and also having the talent to put their thought across effectively," he added.
As part of the annual function, on August 19, a seminar on 'Media: Moving away from people and closer to the market' too has been organised. The seminar will start at 11.30 am and will have well known critic Prof Rajendra Kumar presiding over it. Senior journalists like Gopal Ranjan, Arindam Rai, Surendra Singh, Harishankar Misra, Pramod Bharadwaj and Mukul Mishra are also expected to participate in it.
Centre Of Photojournalism and Visual Communication's first Alumni meet will also take place on August 20 at 3 pm.
