POWER FROM waste can still be possible in the city, as talks regarding the project between Asia Bio Energy Limited Chennai, Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation, Non Conventional Energy Development Authority (NEDA) and Lucknow Municipal Corporation began in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Prior to this, a meeting of the high level monitoring committee constituted for the project, was held on January 19, 2005 under the chairmanship of secretary, MNES wherein time-bound action points were chalked out for implementation by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and ABIL.
It is expected that the problem of waste supply will be solved and the plant will start operating to its full capacity soon.
There are seven partner organisations: Enkem India Ltd, Asia Bio Energy, Lucknow Municipal Corporation, Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation, Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board.
The Rs 760 million project suffered a major setback when the ABIL officials closed down the plant and ran away in 2004, blaming the LMC for supplying poor quality of waste.
In Wednesday’s meeting, the company officials wanted a guarantee from the LMC to supply quality waste and some financial help as well to restart the plant but municipal commissioner VP Singh told the official to improve their waste segregation capacity.
