The matter is now listed for hearing in a district court on Thursday. Farmers have made it clear until the arrested farmers are released, no talk is possible.

District administration officials have said it is beyond them to guarantee release of people in judicial custody.

Five farmers were arrested by Hazratganj police in Lucknow, when they were going to meet the governor and apprise him of “the atrocities” being inflicted by the police in Greater Noida.

When farmers protested the arrests at Mirzapur village in Greater Noida and confronted with police, some more were arrested.

On April 1, top police and administrative officials met the agitating farmers but no breakthrough could be achieved. They decided to talk again on April 7.

“We have told the commissioner that unless our demands are met we will not end the agitation. We want compensation rates to be 80% of the residential sector rates, only 50% land be acquired, 25% reservation for farmers in authority schemes and plots for olandless farmers,” said farmers.
