In a bizarre case, a person sacrificed an 8-year-old boy in Jajpur district of Orissa. Now in police custody, Pitambar Goipai (30) said he killed the boy because he thought it would make him “powerful”, police said.
Goipai practiced tantrik rites at an ashram at Icchapur village in the district, about 150 km north of Bhubaneswar.
The boy, Srikanta Bage, is the eldest son of Shyam Singh Bage (35) of Pubal village under Sukinda police station of Jajpur, about 150 north of Bhubaneswar.
Police said on February 11, Bage and his wife Sashi Bage (30) had gone to a local festival along with their three sons, where Srikant Bage went missing. After looking for him for the whole night, Bage reported the mater to the police next morning.
After extensive search, the police found the headless body of the boy on Wednesday near a nullah near Icchapur village. On Thursday, police raided Goipai’s ashram and recovered the head of the boy in a earthern pot, along with weapons used in severing the head. Police later arrested Goipai from a village in Dhenkanal district.
Goipai, who got married just 16 days back, told the police that he had a dream in which he got an “order” from Devi Shyama Kali to offer a sacrifice of three children. By doing so he could have cured people of serious diseases, he said the police.
