Auto major Tata Motors on Wednesday reported 51 per cent jump in overall vehicle sales during April despite sales of its passenger vehicle severely being hit during the month due to labour strife at a key vendor facility.
The company reported a total sale of 36,082 vehicles (including exports) for the month of April 2006, as against 23,889 vehicles sold in April last year.
Major chunk of sales came from the commercial vehicles, which zoomed by 129 per cent at 19,182 units, as against 8,368 units in April last year, the company said.
Tata Motors said its medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 11,625 units during the month, up 121.5 per cent over April 2005.
Light commercial vehicle sales were 7,557 units, a growth of 142.2 per cent over April last year, it added.
The company said its passenger vehicle business reported a total sale of 13,328 vehicles in the domestic market in April 2006, an increase of 4.7 per cent over the same month last year.

{{/usCountry}}Indica sold 8,493 units while the Indigo family registered sales of 2,587 units. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,248 units, it said.
On the export front, a total of 3,572 units were shipped in April 2006 as compared to 2,785 vehicles in the same month last year, an increase of 28.3 per cent.
