President of Tata Motors, Passenger Car Business Unit, Rajiv Dube claimed on Saturday that the company has no plans to shift its Singur project and that the 'dream car' of Ratan Tata would start rolling out by early 2008.
Addressing newspersons in Jamshedpur, Dube claimed the small car project was aimed for the common masses and entry of new players in the Rs 1 lakh car market would be a boon for buyers. "The project was launched with an aim of providing cars for people who are presently moving on two wheelers," said Dube.
Dube informed that the company has products in the range of Rs 2-3 lakh, which would be launched in future.
Meanwhile, suggesting an alternative to end the impasse, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said 500-acre land acquired "forcibly" by the West Bengal government should be returned and 450 acres of low land available adjacent to it should be acquired for the Tata project.
"We hope that the state government will think over it. The farmers at Singur did not voluntarily give around 500 acres and the government should return it to them," Banerjee, whose hunger strike entered the 13th day, told newsmen.
