He followed the family and forced the taxi to stop. He then shattered the windshield of the car and vandalised it.

The incident occurred when Delhi Transport Corporation employee Stephen Abel, his wife and four children were returning from a Christmas party in East Delhi. Abel is the resident of Chattarpur in South Delhi.

According to police, the incident took place at around 1 a.m. "Abel and his family went to a taxi stand in Patparganj. They first approached the accused who asked for a lot of money and refused to charge by the meter, so the family took another taxi. The accused driver Sanjay Kumar then started following their taxi,' said a police officer.

Kumar, along with accomplices Karan Singh Rawat and Vikas Singh, managed to overtake and stop the taxi near the Ring Road.

"The three accused were drunk and said the other taxi driver, Vaidyanath, had taken away their passengers. They took out iron rods from their car and started smashing the windshield and the windows of the taxi. The scared family immediately called the police," said a police officer.

Vaidyanath also suffered minor injuries. The three accused fled from the spot.

According to police, Vaidyanath stated Kumar had allegedly told him not to take the Abels but when he did not pay heed to him, Kumar became enraged.
