TCS initiative to help SME

TCS launches an unique consulting-led initiative to tap the engineering potential of SME segment in the country.

TCS, a leading global technology services and consulting company, today launched a unique consulting-led initiative to tap the engineering potential of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) segment in the country.

This approach would enable SMEs to innovate and access the global markets, S Ramadorai, CEO and MD of TCS, told reporters.

As part of the initiative, TCS opened its first Engineering Centre of Excellence here, Ramadorai said adding a phased roll out of similar centres was planned in about 30 to 40 locations in various manufacturing clusters in India.

TCS would collaborate with SME segment to offer integrated design to manufacturing and sourcing service to manufacturing customers worldwide in a platform-based, service oriented mode which would enable SMEs to gain access to global markets, cutting edge technology and tools as well as world-class process excellence, he claimed.

The Centre would work with SME players in the region to improve their engineering capabilities and connect them to potential customers globally, Ravi Gopinath, Vice-president and head-Engineering and industrial services, TCS, said.

TCS has entered into a MOU with Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, with 4,500 registered companies, with an aggregate export revenue of close to Rs 2,400 crore, Ravi added.
